Search Engine Optimization (SEO) refers to the activities that make web pages rank high and appear at the top of search results when certain keyword searches are made in search engines. When search engines, like Google, display results from searches made by internet users, the search engine considers the most authoritative and relevant web pages and displays them at the top.
How the search engine measures the authority of a web page is by doing an analysis of the number of links from other websites/pages to that web page (inbound links) and the quality of those links. So, the higher the inbound links to a web page and the better the quality of the links, the higher it will rank of search engine result pages.

Because SEO’s aim is to optimize web pages for higher ranking on search engine result pages, SEO then amounts to the relevance and authority of the web page. Relevance measures how the content of the web page relates to the search, while Authority measures the level of trustworthiness of the content of the web page. The relevance of a web page can be tweaked using keyword selection and creation of content. Authority, on the other hand, can be improved through high-quality content, use of inbound links, solid user interface metrics, and brand mentions.

Web pages perform better on search engines when on-site optimization is carried out them. This on-site optimization involves the adoption of measures like including target keywords in page titles and met-description, using clean and minimal codes on the web page, having short domain lengths, and providing sufficient relevant content.
• Results measurement and analysis is crucial
SEO works only when the optimization results are measured, interpreted, and analyzed to make significant improvements to how the SEO is carried out. SEO results analysis tools such as Google Analytics are great for doing such analysis for better ranking on search engine results pages.
